Dorothea Robinson Bell is a native of Chicago ,IL and the sixth child in a family of
eight. She is the proud mother of David La'Mar 28,Brandee Nicole 22,Shannon Elizabeth
10, and Christian D'Angelo 6.
Dorothea was a Senior Merchandise Manager/Buyer for JC Penney for 20 years and has worked
for the last 10 years as a sales consultant to women's boutiques in the southeast.
She graduated from Simeon Vocational High School where she was valedictorian of her class.
She attended Roosevelt University in Chicago,IL where she studied Marketing and Management
and is also an alumnus of Inroads/Chicago.
Dorothea knows first hand what the death of a child can do to an individual, as well as,
how it effects an entire family. Shannon Elizabeth passed one month after her
birth. Dorothea's marriage did not survive the stress that Shannon's death brought to
the family. After realizing she was not going to make it through the double tragedy of
that year, Dorothea sought out help to be able to continue in this journey called life.
The Overcomers Ministry offered the love and support that she needed to recover from
the pain of day-to-day life. The next three years proved to be the best and yet the
most challenging years of her life as she fought to begin living, not just existing.
After participating in several support groups,Dorothea graduated from Twelve
Steps - Healing of Damaged Emotions at Cathedral at Chapel Hill.
Dorothea met and married her husband Malcom D. Bell,Sr. She currently resides
in Ellenwood, Georgia with Malcom and their six year old son Christian D'Angelo.
Dorothea's sister Deborah Brooks who is a MISS facilitator, introduced Dorothea to the
MISS Foundation over 9 years ago, but she was not able to talk about or mentally deal
with the thought of sharing with anyone the deep pain that was without words. Dorothea
is now ready to share her story to help others know that families can and will survive
the tragedies the death of a child can bring.
