Facilitator - Huntington Beach,
California
Hello,
my name is Kim St.Laurent. I have been a resident of Huntington
Beach, California my entire life. I have been happily married
to my best friend Rick for over 11 years now. Rick and I have
three beautiful daughters, two who walk and one that soars.
Our newest addition to the family is our great dog “Bo”. I enjoy
traveling, scrapbooking, eating and especially spending time
with my friends and family.
I graduated from UCLA in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
I immediately chose to work in the area of labor and delivery, and
wouldn’t want to ever leave the maternal child health area. I love
working with moms and babies! Two years ago I choose to work as
a home health nurse, providing services to post partum mothers and
children. I work primarily with the multicultural, low-income families
in Orange County. I feel that I am blessed with a career that gives
me an opportunity to use my experience and compassion to help bereaved
families.
I first gave birth to my daughter, Nicole in 1995. She is an amazing
child full of energy and compassion who loves to dance, swim and
play soccer. When she was almost three years old, I gave birth to
my second daughter Taylor Louise, who was born still at thirty-five
weeks, due to a cord accident. She was a beautiful child and she
changed my life forever. I knew when I left the hospital without
my baby that my life would never be the same again. After attending
local support groups, and educating my self about grief, I decided
to focus my professional and personal life to help other bereaved
parents. I just had to! I was given an opportunity to make a difference
because of my profession. I feel it is my responsibility, in honor
of my daughter, to help any family that I can.
I met Joanne at a RTS (Resolve through Sharing) at a facilitator
training three months after losing Taylor. She was the first person
to discover that I was pregnant with my third daughter (way too
soon!). The MISS Foundation was growing rapidly and quickly reaching
families over the “new internet”. It was actually the very first
site I ever searched on the internet after reading Dear Cheyenne.
When I met Joanne, I had no idea who and what I had just discovered!
She is an amazing woman who I respect and admire and I am continually
amazed at her efforts, driven by her love for Cheyenne and of all
children!
My third daughter, Aubrey Taylor was born one year after the loss
of Taylor. She is a true blessing from God. Aubrey gave me renewed
hope and happiness. Both my daughters are so sensitive and compassionate
in regards to their own “guardian angel”. They never hesitate to
share their story about their sister.
I met another astonishing MISS woman, Katie
Hodge at the MISS Conference last year. We now co-facilitate
a support group in Huntington Beach, California. Katie and I have
many goals for California MISS and I am so proud to be a part of
this MISS family.
