My name is Nicole Dougherty born in San Diego, California. I was
raised by my mom along with my 3 older siblings Shari, Hosia and
Donja after our parents divorced. I dropped out of High School
(a big mistake on my part) 3 weeks before graduation due to depression
after the death of 2 of my best friends who were in a car accident
(I was supposed to be driving, but for some reason my mom wouldn't
let me go). I went back to adult education High school while living
in Michigan and I graduated with almost straight A's (got 1 B in
English hated that course)(I was also 7 1/2 months pregnant with
our second child Jessa when I graduated needless to say I needed
a bigger graduation gown) .
I married my husband Tim a Marine (he got out 6 years ago but you
know the saying "Once A MARINE always a MARINE") for almost 7 years
now he is a field supervisor for a communications company and I
am a stay at home mom.
I am the mother of 6 children, Timmy, Jessa, Ethyn Jack and my Angels
In Heaven, twins Gunnar and River and Dakotah Rayne.
I became involved with the M.I.S.S. Foundation after the death of
our twin sons, Gunnar and River, who were stillborn at term after
a doctor refused to deliver them because I was not his patient.
At first when I had no other mother to talk to about my feelings
I felt very alone and then along came Joanne. She helped us to realize
that we were not alone, she and the group helped us through so much
of our pain.
Seven months after Gunnar and River passed away we found out we
were pregnant again. We were scared since it was not planned. We
were going along fine and unprepared for the early arrival of our
fifth child Dakotah Rayne. He was 6 weeks early but healthy. He
was in an incubator for a week. We watched him as if he would disappear.
The day before he turned 2 months old, our worst fear had come true.
He had died in his sleep - it was SIDS.
Joanne and the group were there for us. We didn't know what to do,
our lives had been turned upside down again. The pain is the same
though even though the situations are different, my heart aches,
my arms ache, I will never get to hold them again until I get to
heaven.
People ask me how many children I have and I say 6, 3 that walk
and 3 that soar. My life goes on to keep the memory of our sons
alive. We volunteer with the M.I.S.S. foundation. I don't have a
career outside the home but I do like to swim and do different types
of crafts and work on WebPages.
