Emily’s Gifts

By her Mother, Mary Beth Adomaitis

Before Emily was born, I had 2 baby showers -- one back home in Ohio thrown by my sweet mother and sister-in-law, and another by co-workers. We received a lot of diapers. With Emily being our first child, we anticipated running out of diapers (for some odd reason). I was also getting formula free in the mail. When I went back to work 7 weeks after Emily became an angel, I loaded the boxes of diapers, wipes and formula in the back of my van, knowing I would have to donate them somewhere. One of my reporters gave me a list of shelters in the community we covered. One Friday afternoon, I called a battered women's shelter and identified myself as someone who just wanted to donate some items. I went right over, because I knew I would lose my nerve if I waited. The volunteers there were extremely guarded and cautious. One woman came and helped me unload my van and was surprised at the items I had. I told her about Emily and how she had died so suddenly. I also showed her Emily's pictures. Before long, we were embracing and crying. I told the volunteer that I really wanted these to help someone who really needed them. I'm sure they were used on a little one who was in an unfortunate situation. I did grab one little diaper out of the box to keep in her memory box. I cried the rest of the day but I also stopped by the cemetery after that and felt a sense of peace. I am glad that I was able to help others in need...and do it in memory of our angel, Emily.

Saving Lives for Liam

We ordered a gross of MATT (Medical Assistance Treating Toddlers) stickers and are distributing them to preschools, moms groups, and the local police and firefighters. These stickers go on car seats and have important medical and emergency contact information on them. In case of accident, emergency personnel can use that information if you are not on the scene or not able to respond. Our son Liam was born still on 6/10/99 at 40 weeks ( no known cause) and we search for any way to help others protect their precious children, that is why we chose the stickers. We miss him in our lives and try to honor his life.

Come To Me

Come to me
Come to the stillness
In deafening moments
And I will whisper to you

Come to the light
When the world is dark
And I will show you the way

Come to the warmth
In the chill of grief
And I will wrap my wings
Of gold around you

I will comfort you
With my gifts
Come to the silence
Come to me...
